PROJECT COORDINATOR

Focused on innovation, safety, and sustainability, RINA actively contributes to decarbonisation through international hydrogen projects and working groups. Our expertise spans renewable energy, grid applications, energy storage, and the broader transformation of the energy sector. In BRAIN, RINA coordinates all technical and scientific activities, leading process modelling, HAZID/HAZOP risk assessment, pilot plant design, LCA analysis and the Feasibility Study. RINA is already an active player in other European Critical Raw Materials projects, including GR4FITE3 (Grant Agreement No. 101103752) and RAWMINA (Grant agreement No. 958252).

University of L’Aquila (UNIVAQ)
The RIF-IND research group at the Department of Industrial and Information Engineering and Economics, led by Prof. Francesco Vegliò, has extensive expertise in the hydrometallurgical recovery of metals and rare earths from industrial waste and e-waste. In BRAIN, UNIVAQ is responsible for laboratory-scale tests using ionic liquids, as well as the construction, management and experimental testing of the pilot plant. The group operates the mobile FENIX pilot plant, already deployed at an authorised industrial site near L’Aquila.

Energia Minerals (Italia) Srl — EMI
Energia Minerals is the Italian subsidiary of Altamin Ltd (ASX-listed), an exploration and development company focused on critical raw materials for the energy transition. The company holds six exploration licences in the Lazio region, including the Cesano site, and has already conducted preliminary studies confirming the geothermal and mineral potential of the resource. In BRAIN, EMI leads geothermal resource characterisation, brine preparation, and dissemination activities targeting investors and industrial stakeholders.
